Frequently Asked Questions
What is an eyelash lift? A procedure that involves applying chemicals to the lashes to curl them from the base of the hair (nearest the eyelid) to the tip. An eyelash lift is similar to a perm for your hair and is a great alternative to getting eyelash extensions; it also allows you to spend less time on your daily lash routine by not having to curl your lashes every day. If you also receive our lash tint treatment, you will save more time not having to apply mascara.
What is an eyebrow lamination? The application of chemicals to relax, straighten and fix the brow hairs into your desired shape. The shape is customized to you and the aesthetic you would like to achieve.
Are eyelash lifts and eyebrow laminations safe? Yes, at Simply Skin Sanctuary, our product utilizes a cysteamine HCL active, containing no thioglycolate. Thioglycolate is a strong alkaline chemical that, when used in lash lift and brow lamination products, softens the hair structure. Unfortunately, this chemical is attributed to many clients experiencing allergic reactions, dermatitis, hair breakage, and other issues. Thioglycolate can affect the skin, hair, and the respiratory, reproductive, ocular, and endocrine systems. Our system (with no thioglycolate) allows for more gentle and effective lash lift/brow lamination results while minimizing the chance of overprocessing, keeping the hairs healthy while maintaining the hair bond integrity.
How long does an eyelash lift/eyebrow lamination last? Typically they last 4-8 weeks but are dependent upon your hair growth cycle, eyelash & eyebrow care, and your daily skincare routine. Here at Simply Skin Sanctuary, we like to keep your skin and hair as healthy as possible while also achieving your desired aesthetic. We believe that if you are healthy from the inside out, your glow will shine from within. This applies to the skin and the hair. Therefore, we perform eyelash lifts/brow laminations on our clients no sooner than every 8-10 weeks. The time between treatments also varies dependent upon the hair's health and your past history with lash/brow services. We never want to allow the hairs to become damaged due to overprocessing.
What is an eyelash/eyebrow tint? Application of a semi-permanent dye to the eyelashes and/or eyebrows that is specially formulated for the eye area. Our product does not contain any ammonia which makes it less irritating to the sensitive eye area, causing less redness, discomfort, and fewer allergic reactions. It is more gentle on delicate lash and brow hairs and is less likely to damage the natural hairs due to a milder chemical composition than other tint products that do contain ammonia. The system we use is a hybrid dye which means it will tint both the skin and the hair it is applied to. This helps to eliminate/minimize the use of mascara on the lashes and/or brow pencils on the brows.
How long does an eyelash and/or eyebrow tint last? Because we use a hybrid dye system, it will tint both the skin and the hair it is applied to. Depending on your hair growth cycle, eyelash & eyebrow care, and your daily skincare routine, tint can stain the skin for up to 7 days and the hair for up to 7 weeks.
What is eyebrow shaping and can anyone get their eyebrows waxed? We first map the eyebrows to your desired shape and size. We then wax, tweeze and trim the brow hairs if necessary to achieve your aesthetic goals. Brow waxing is not recommended for those who use AHAs, Retinols, BHAs, are on Accutane, or have recently had a chemical peel. We recommend waiting at least two weeks after a chemical peel before waxing your brows. Retinols, AHAs, and BHAs should be avoided for 3-5 days before your brow wax session.
Do I need to grow out my eyebrows before my brow shaping appointment and how often do they need shaping? Yes, please give yourself at least 4-6 weeks of growth before scheduling your first brow shaping session with us. Healthy brows develop over a period of 21-30 days. Any hairs that have been removed from the hair follicle should begin to appear on the skin's surface at the end of this cycle. Allowing for complete hair growth guarantees that we have plenty to work with. Typically, women's brows should be done every 3-4 weeks to maintain the shape.
What kind of wax do you use? At Simply Skin Sanctuary, we are always looking for products that are as clean and healthy as possible. The wax we use is 100% synthetic resin and does not contain Colophonium (rosin/tree sap), making it ideal for sensitive skin. It is hypoallergenic, vegan, cruelty free, and gentle on the skin.
How do I take the best care of my eyelashes and eyebrows after a service from you? We truly want you to get the most out of all of your services at Simply Skin Sanctuary. The best way to care for your lashes/brows after a service is by following these instructions: * Avoid moisture of any kind (steam, water, sweat, etc)-do not get them wet for 24-48 hours after your treatment. Avoid steamy showers, sauna, and swimming. * Do not wear eye make-up for 24 hours. * Avoid oil-based products, harsh makeup, waterproof mascara, and eyelash curlers as much as possible. * After the initial 24 hours, use a gentle cleanser daily that is formulated for the eyes or safe for the eye area. Brush through the lashes and brows with a clean mascara wand/spoolie daily to keep the hairs separated and to prevent tangling. Use a lash/brow conditioner/serum to keep the hairs hydrated and nourished to promote the hair's overall health. * Be gentle-avoid rubbing or touching your eyes. The bonds need time to fully set and excessive pressure can disrupt the process. * We also recommend sleeping on your back and using a silk/satin pillowcase. This helps prevent friction and minimizes the chance of the hairs getting caught, bent or tangled. * Do not schedule another lash lift and/or brow lamination before 8-10 weeks and do not schedule another lash and/or brow tint before 4-6 weeks. The hairs will become damaged if they are overprocessed.
